Multi-Generational (MG) Wireless

Connected Motor Vehicles & Components Sub-Program

The Connected Motor Vehicles Sub-Program of Via’s Multi-Generational Wireless Patent Licensing Program is designed to meet the needs of the automotive industry by offering a combined license to patents essential to multiple telecommunications standards, including 3G (W-CDMA) and 4G (LTE/LTE-A/LTE-Advanced Pro), and for eCall/e911 functionality, from licensors participating in the sub-program. These technologies currently form the core wireless connectivity and functionalities required for connected motor vehicles, effectively enabling, among other functions, safety, telematics, emergency notifications, voice and data communications, infotainment, location guidance, and ultimately, fully autonomous driving.

Via’s Multi-Generational Connected Motor Vehicles Sub-Program license is available to all automobile manufacturers and their associated suppliers, providing them with freedom to operate with respect to the licensed patents and standards in a transparent and cost-effective manner.  As with all Via licensing programs, this sub-program supports continued innovation and promotes fair and reasonable access to patents essential to these key telecommunications standards as used in the automotive industry.
